I am still shooting a picture a day for my 365: a picture a day-series. After April’s topic of Shadow I chose water for this lovely green month. Of course water is an opulent topic in photography, just think of reflections in surfaces and tiny drops catching the light. Also it is everywhere to find. But the best thing is the fact that the pools opened again and watching (and catching) the playful lines will never ever get dull. Just have a look:
In April and May my father and I travelled Morocco for a week. We only visited three cities: Casablanca, Marrakesh and El Jadida, but all impressions were really overwhelming. Of course I took pictures, although very often the foreigness made me a silent observer not so much a documentary photographer. For now I only will post a handful of pictures, some more you can see as a part of my 365-series of course. During that week my SHADOW-month ended and I decided on going on by the topic WATER. Have a look if you like.
Some pink wall and an olive tree at Marrakesh
Seen from the car the landscape is very alternating and dry, but still green in spring
A flat tyre, speed controls, but impressive landscapes
Just love the red soil
Once you got your tyre fixed you will notice the workshops just everywhere
After the desert and the dry Atlas mountains we reached the Atlantic ocean
Yesterday it was the 113th day of the year and I still attempt to take picture of shadows this month. Time trickles away and does not ever come back or even hold. In making photographs I try to be stronger than time. It is a hopeless strife. Have a look at the 365-series, watch me struggle.
For the month of April I chose shadow as a topic. A theme helps to find focus on the every day basis. I combine the pictures in this spring month with fragments from texts about poetry and its function. This results in gripping combinations. Sometimes it does. So my 365-series continues, have a look if you like.
In the last days of the month with the topic Human I still work with titles from various philosophers. Thoughts or even fragments of utterances are like a springboard to me. I read them while looking at the picture and then my brain jumps in different directions, sent by the words. I wonder if more people experience this effect? I remain curious where this journey of the 365-project will bring me.
365/79 – Doubt as far as possible all things
After the red month of February I am circulating around the topic of Human in this month. I take a picture of a person or more and then I look for a title that adds at least one dimension to it. In this way the beholder can watch and think. At the moment I am using notions from sciences as philosophy, narratology and sociology. I like this very much. 365/72 – Shrinking of the present
In February I had a topic for the 365: a picture a day-series, which was red. Today is the first of March and I decided to not choose another color, although I was triggered. I chose a different category which gives me both: a focus and freedom. Two very important things in art. The new topic will be: human. I am very curious where this will bring me.
365/60 – Life is not about who you are but who you want to be
I actually chose red as a topic for my pictures in February because of the grey month, the cold and the absence of light. Now it turns out that the sun started early this year. Last week I spent some days in the Harz. There was actually snow left for the right winter feels. So the 365-series continued.
365/52 – Rational judgement
In the middle of February I still embrace the colour red. I am happy to find so many different things in this beautiful color – all over the city, the house, the wardrobe, even the fridge. A visual game in my ongoing 365-series. Take a look, if you like.
365/43 – Change your perspective
Concerning the 365-project: January is filed already, at least my images are. For February I came up with a topic: I am going to take a picture a day containing the colour red. Why is that, one might wonder. Because in the grey, cold month I want to remind me of passion, lust and – why not call it – love. Having a focus is fun. I should try it more often. I did a red month once earlier, when I made my 1000-series and I liked the outcome very much.
On the last day of January I went to Groningen to visit a symposium on The Negotiation of Values in Narrative, which was inspiring to me. I am looking forward how this will effect my future pictures. Because I also am interested in story telling and meta-perspectives. So let’s see, what will rise from that.
