To me photography means catching a sense. If I don’t feel anything while looking at the picture, I simply discard it. A lot of my pictures show people (My lovely neighbors, Artists in their studio or Ander licht). I take time to portray a person, I want the models to feel at ease, make them forget the camera, build a connection just with me – the photographer.
I also take pictures of days, hours, passing time (Farewell to a house). Or I try to preserve time or a special period as I did with summer evenings in The bathrobe series. Sometimes I work with poetry, I look for images to go with the lines. With poets like Jan Glas (Een Europese geschiedenis) and Emily Dickinson (Emily) or an artist like Andy Warhol (Eye of the beholder). In the future I like to use music as a basis as well. My latest project is my series Curfew Night Walks.
My project of 1000 pictures a day (2013-2015) helped me to understand what actually fascinates me about photography, which motifs and sceneries (almost) urge me to take the camera. So I discovered that Trees do that and also a certain sentiment of abondonment or being Alone. I enjoy very much to discover how the journey continues.
The idea of taking a picture a day kept intriguing me, so I started a new 365-project on January the first of 2019. It is a combination of a diary-form and trying something new every day, in fact it is just a great playground to me. Every now and then I write some words about in on my blog. During the first months of 2019 I discovered the power of using existing quotes as titles for my pictures. The topics are very diverse, but the more I observe myself, I notice them to be humanistic. As I have a background of liberal arts as well.
Over the last years I already had for a few times the phantastic opportunity to show my images in different public venues:
-September -November 2019 Emily at Café Bolwerk, Enschede.
-May 2018 until July 2019 Ander licht (each month one portrait is added) at Stiltecentrum, MST, the hospital of Enschede.
-in spring 2018 Katalog der Angst as a part of “Discomfort” group exposition at HeArtgallery, Hengelo.
-in March and April 2018 I am not an astronaut Or Will you know it when it’s over (solo) at ArtOne, Enschede.
-in September 2017 Een Europese geschiedenis (solo) at Café Bolwerk, Enschede.
-in May 2017 Fire in the Forest (duo) at bookstore Broekhuis Enschede.
-in May 2016 My lovely Neighbors (solo) at bookstore Broekhuis Enschede.
-in March/April 2016 Een Europese geschiedenis with Art Group Wakker at Concordia, Enschede.
